To transfer airtime on the MTN network is not as difficult as you may think. There are many people facing this challenge meaning you are not the only person with such problem. MTN has made provision to help you share your airtime with loved ones. This idea is very good for low airtime consumers. 

Sometimes you may have lots of airtime in your phone without having serious calls to make with it. Or perhaps you want the airtime to be in another MTN line you own, or just send it to loved ones who need it most. This post will guard you to make a successful airtime transfer using your MTN SIM card.

 

Before now, MTN Share ‘N’ Sell is a service that allowed you to transfer your airtime to someone else. The service has now changed to ‘MTN Share’. According to information made available by MTN, MTN Share is available to all the new and existing postpaid and prepaid customers on its network and the service is completely free of charge.

Every customer qualified for this service has a default service PIN ‘0000’. To use this service, you need to change the default service PIN to another four digits numbers that only you can use. It will become your secret PIN.

To change your default PIN which is 0000, send an SMS to 777 with the following format: your Default PIN (space) your new PIN (space) your new PIN. For example, assuming you want to change your PIN to 1234. The message should look like this: 0000 1234 1234 send it to 777 and your new MTN Share PIN will become 1234. A message will be sent to your phone informing you of the new MTN Share PIN.

 

Assuming you want to change the default PIN to a personal without sending a text message, you can do that by dialing the following codes on your phone: *777*Default PIN*New PIN*New PIN#. In the case of using 1234 as your new MTN Share PIN, the code you will dial will look like: *777*0000*1234*1234#  afterwards, a message will be sent to you regarding the change of your default PIN if the operation was successful.

 

The next thing is to proceed and make your first airtime transfer. You can do that in two ways, either by sending text message or by dialing USSD code.

 

To use text message in making the airtime transfer, type the following: ‘Transfer’ ‘Recipient’s Number’ ‘Amount’ and ‘PIN’ then send it to 777. Assuming you want to send N100 airtime to 0803000000 the text: Transfer 0803000000 100 1234 then send the message to 777. You will receive a message that will ask you to confirm the airtime transfer by sending ‘Yes’ to 777. You will need to send the second message by simply typing YES and send to 777 to confirm the airtime transfer.

 

To transfer airtime using USSD, all you need is a direct code from your phone screen. Dial *777*Recipient’s Number*Amount*PIN#  if we use the similar example with the earlier details the code will look like this: *777*0803000000*100*1234# and send the code with the dial button. If the operation is successful, you will receive a message informing you that the transfer was successful.

 

 Things you need to know about MTN Share

MTN Share does not transfer kobo digits. This means the amount you are transferring must end in zero.

The transfer range for MTN Share per one transaction is N50 to N5000.

Your daily transfer to one or more MTN numbers is up to N100,000 and there is no maximum number of daily transactions.

The transaction can only be successful if you have enough airtime in your phone that covers the amount you are transferring.

Postpaid customers can only use MTN Share if their account balance is is showing positive + figure for instance N1000 instead of -N100. The amount they can send must not exceed the positive balance in the account.
