- First log in to your Instagram account from a computer as you cannot delete account from an Instagram app. Or you can log in from your phone web browser. If you using Chrome Browser, Tap at the three Dot on the right hand side of the browser, scroll down and Check the box for Desktop Site.
- Go to “Delete Your Account Page”
- Upon selecting “Delete Your Account” a drop down menu will appear which is “Why are you deleting your account?”
- The moment you choose a reason, you will be prompted to re-enter your password.
- Next click on “Permanently Delete my Account”. A confirmation message appears to confirm your action.
Just like Facebook, Instagram gives you the opportunity to download your data before permanently deleting your account. To download your data you may need to follow these simple steps:
- From Instagram profile go to “Settings”
- Click on the “Privacy & Security” icon
- Click on “Request Download”
- Enter your notification email address which allows you to follow the link back to Instagram to download your data.
- Then input your password.
- Upon receiving a mail within 48 hours from Instagram follow the link titled “Your Instagram Data”
- Click on “Download Data” from your email to get your data.

- Log in to your Instagram account from a computer as you cannot delete account from an Instagram app. Or you can log in from your phone web browser. If you using Chrome Browser, Tap at the three Dot on the right hand side of the browser, scroll down and Check the box for Desktop Site. Then go to your profile page.
- Click on “Edit Profile”
- Then click on “Temporarily Disable my Account”
- Upon selecting “Delete Your Account” a drop down menu will appear which is “Why are you disabling your account?”
- The moment you choose a reason, you will be prompted to re-enter your password.
- Next click on “Temporarily Disable my Account”.
