Wikipedia is a great way to get more awareness and visibility for your brand. It’s one of the best ways for your business to rank on Google, more especially on the first page.
Generally, Wikipedia is a recognized website and in most cases, it’s the first page people click when they want to know more about any brand.
So in this post, we discuss how to create a Wikipedia page that will attract more visibility and bring the needed awareness to your brand.
Without wasting time, let’s jump in.
Steps to creating a Wikipedia page

1. Open a Wikipedia account
In your browser search bar, type www.wikipedia.com and it takes you to the homepage.
On the homepage, at the top by the right side, you will see “Create account”click on it.
Key in your information with your desired username and password, and hit the “create account”button.
2. Get upgraded to an autoconfirmed user
As a new user on Wikipedia, a pop-up box will be displayed asking you to “help improve Wikipedia”and a link to edit the article will be displayed as well.
This means that Wikipedia will only allow creating your page if you have been approved as an autoconfirmed user on its platform.
So you will need to be patient and spend a few days editing other accounts. Once they confirm you as an autoconfirmed user, you will then be allowed to move to the next step.
3. Create your page
At this stage, you will be allowed to create your brand page. On Wikipedia, there’s a page called “writing an article”you will scroll down and you will see a button in blue color saying “article wizard: an easy way to create articles.”
As long as you have to be autoconfirmed as a user, click on the button. Wikipedia will redirect you to “article wizard” with two options.
First, to start creating your page immediately with a click on “Next”
Second, edit your page in the sandbox of Wikipedia.
But as a new user, you will click on “Next.”
Understandably, there will likely be no Wikipedia page created about your brand, so you’re free to write and include detailed information about your brand. It all depends on you.
Also, you need to structure your page for people to easily read it, stating important and basic information about what the business is into.
This means you have to start your page with one or two sentences of what the business does. Then follow it with a table of contents on the left side of the page and the right side of the page, creating a “fact sheet.”
Under the table of contents, write a brief history of the business, with a description of products or services you provide under the history.
The information will be useful to any person who has never heard anything about the business before. By seeing Wikipedia, they will be able to know what you do, and what other authority sources are saying about your business.
Your Wikipedia page is created with the main intention to bring more awareness and visibility to the business.
4. Insert citations
You should know that Wikipedia is like an encyclopedia. So to make your page more valid, putting citations to different content because third-party sources are important to make your page to be approved by Wikipedia.
Even before you start to create your page, Wikipedia will warn you by stating clearly that anything you plan to write must have been covered in independent sources.
These sources can be books, magazines, journals, newspapers, and authority websites that are known to verify things before publishing them.
Also, understand that press releases, professional profiles, or social media accounts are not allowed as citations.
Understand that citations give more credibility to the business and build more trust in the reader who reads about your business to see it as a trusted company to do business with.
So I recommend that you find a way for online magazines or newspapers to write about the business or even have authority websites link to your website will be great.
5. Submit your page for review
After creating the page, you will click submit to allow Wikipedia to review it. Once the page has been reviewed by Wikipedia, it will go live, meaning they will upload it as one of the official pages of Wikipedia.
6. Regularly update the page
You have to understand that the work continues. When the page starts to rank on the first page for your brand, you must constantly update the page for it to always provide the most current information about the business.
Also, updating the page with every development happening in your business means that you’re transparent, which will make both your customers and prospective ones comfortable about the business.
These days, a search on Google will display enough information including directories, press releases, profiles on any topic. But with your up-to-date page, you will cover many things, giving your viewers a trusted source to know more about the business.
Conclusion
Now I’d like to hear your thoughts on this post. Which of the steps do you think is more important? Or probably I failed to mention an important aspect of creating a Wikipedia page that’s important. Either way, let me know in the comment box.
